FAQ
What is Localtime? Localtime shows you two times simultaneously: your clock time and true solar time, calculated from the actual position of the sun at your exact location.
How does solar time work? When the sun reaches its highest point in the sky, it is exactly 12:00 solar time — wherever you are. Solar time is determined purely by astronomy, not by time zones or daylight saving time.
Why is there a difference between clock time and solar time? Clock time is a practical agreement. Time zones group large areas under one standard time for convenience. In Western Europe, daylight saving time adds another hour in summer — meaning your clock can run up to 1 hour and 40 minutes ahead of the sun.
Why does the difference change throughout the year? The Earth’s elliptical orbit and axial tilt cause small variations in solar time — up to ±16 minutes. This is called the Equation of Time. Localtime accounts for this in its calculation.
Solar time is not showing. What do I do? Solar time requires access to your location. Tap ‘Refresh Location’ in the app. If it still doesn’t work, go to Settings → Localtime → Location and select ‘While Using the App’.
What are sunrise and sunset times based on? They are calculated astronomically using your GPS coordinates — not from an online database. They represent the exact moment the sun crosses the horizon at your location.
How much does Localtime cost? Localtime is available on the App Store for €1.99. One time purchase, no subscription.
Is my location stored or shared? No. Your location is used only to calculate solar time, sunrise and sunset. It is never stored or shared.
